Dance Theatre Company Tackle Issues of Sexuality at Sherman
|
Internationally acclaimed dance theatre company DV8 Physical Theatre present a brand new hard-hitting show about homosexuality and religion at Sherman, Cardiff on 24 – 25 April.
DV8's Artistic Director Lloyd Newson leads a multi-ethnic cast in a poetic but unflinching exploration of tolerance, intolerance, religion and sexuality. Combining dance, text, documentary, animation and film, To Be Straight With You is based on hundreds of hours of audio interviews collected throughout the UK with people directly affected by issues of homosexuality. Newson comments:
“We interviewed 84 individuals affected by these issues, men and women, some who are both religious and gay, some who have given up on one for the other, members of the clergy, human rights organisations and people opposed to homosexuality due to religious beliefs. I have since worked hard, not just at turning their testimonials into a dance theatre piece, but also at making sure we do justice to these people, honestly presenting their stories, whether they support gay rights or not.”
DV8 are a highly acclaimed theatre company who have produced 15 theatre pieces which have toured internationally and four films which have won a string of awards. To Be Straight With You tours throughout the UK before a run at London’s National Theatre, and also tours to Australia, Switzerland, France and the USA.

Tickets are £16 (£14 Reductions, Under 19s £10) and can be booked from Sherman Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or online at www.shermancymru.co.uk There will also be a pre-show talk with Lloyd Newson on 25 April at 6.15pm.
