New Plays and New Talent at Sherman Writing Festival

New Plays and New Talent at Sherman Writing Festival This April, Sherman Cymru present SpringBoard, a brand new festival celebrating the best of Welsh talent and new writing for the theatre, from a whole host of emerging and established writers and artists on 11 – 20 April.

SpringBoard will take place across two weekends and will include numerous short showings of theatre from the best of Welsh talent. Festival Co-ordinator and Sherman Literary Manager Sian Summers says:

“The idea behind the festival is that lots of things will be going on all around the theatre over the two weekends so people can turn up and dip in and out as they wish. Each piece will be a short, sharp blast of theatre and each is no longer than half an hour long. There’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.”

Writers and artists have been working on projects for SpringBoard since the beginning of the year, and have been created through a variety of approaches including a “lock-in” at the theatre over a weekend and collaborations with musicians such as rock-band Gin Drinker and Welsh rap artist Steffan Cravos to create new pieces of theatre.

As well as providing opportunities for emerging writers looking to gain experience in seeing their work performed, SpringBoard will also include work from established Welsh writers such as Gary Owen and Alan Osbourne. The festival will also host several talkback sessions giving audiences the chance to feedback and discuss the burning issues in theatre today.

The festival will also play host to the annual Sherman ScriptSlam final on Tuesday 15 April, where five winning writers from this years monthly ScriptSlam competitions compete to become ScriptSlam winner 2008. There will also be a special visit from cult new writing event Dirty Protest on Thursday 17 April, in their first performance in a theatre venue, after sell out nights at Milgi bar.

The SpringBoard festival is on at Sherman from 11 – 20 April. Tickets for events are £3 with a special ticket offer of 4 events for £10. Dirty Protest tickets are £5 and not included in this offer. For more details about the festival and for the festival schedule go to www.shermancymru.co.uk
