St Donats Arts Centre wins appeal against funding withdrawal |
![]() An independent panel’s decision in support of the arts centre will now be considered by the Arts Council at its meeting on the 25th April. John Clarke, Chairman of the Arts Centre said, “We are delighted that the independent Appeal Panel has found in our favour and, therefore, that our Arts Council grant should be restored to us .We regard this as a recognition and endorsement of the wide ranging contribution that St Donats Arts Centre makes to the arts both in Wales and on the wider international stage.” “The support we have received has been heart-warming and we would like to thank our thousands of supporters who have made their feelings known, the many Welsh Assembly Members who have interceded on our behalf, and our other funders including Atlantic College, the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Mousetrap Settlement Trust who have all continued to stand by us in what has been one of the most difficult periods in our history.” “With our future assured, our audiences and participants can look forward to enjoying an exciting and varied programme including the first ever, open-air visit to Wales of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in August and a concert by the world renowned soprano Dame Emma Kirkby in June. Looking further ahead, Beyond The Border, our internationally acclaimed Storytelling Festival, will be back in summer 2009.” Vale AM, Jane Hutt, welcomed the news, "I have backed the campaign by St Donats Arts Centre to get this decision overturned, and I am pleased that the appeal panel has found in favour of the Arts Centre. I trust that the Arts Council of Wales will take steps at their next Board Meeting to reinstate the funding for St Donats Arts Centre in line with this appeal decision and will meet with the Centre managers to work constructively together." Janet Smith, General Manager of the arts centre said, “Reinstatement of the grant will certainly save the arts centre alongside our education work in schools, hospitals, community centres and prisons in disadvantaged communities in Wales. Furthermore, it will mean that Wales can continue to lead the way in welcoming international performers and audiences, many of whom travel great distances |
