Members of Gwent Young People’s Theatre will lead a celebration evening with a Noson Lawen this Friday, 18 April, 7.30pm

The Noson Lawen is a merry, informal evening when the community celebrates local talents who come together in a spirit of enjoyable fun.

Music – including the guitar and harp – poetry, sketches and comedy will be performed mainly in English with contributions by Welsh speakers who usually provide versions in both languages.

The concept of a Noson Lawen goes back hundreds, if not thousands of years, and this is an annual event in the GYPT calendar, helping to raise funds towards the six productions they stage every year.

Among the performers will be harpist Bethan Mason, singer/guitarist Ric Hool, poets Peter Davies, Christopher Meredith and Chris Hall and current members of GYPT.

The evening is compered by former Gwent Theatre actor Mike Foulkes.

The event is at the Melville Theatre in the Drama Centre, Penypound, Abergavenny and starts 7.30pm.

Tickets are £6 and £4 from the Borough Theatre Box Office 01873 850805.
