Theatr Fynnon will present A Day in the Death of Joe Egg at The Riverfront on
Thursday 15 and Friday 16 May at 7.15pm. This is a project that focuses on various issues including the issue of care/carers, attitudes to disability in general and the simple question of life or death?
This biting, ironic black comedy focuses on a couple struggling to cope under the pressure of looking after their severely disabled daughter, Joe. Sheila, the mother, hopes for Joe to recover, whilst the father Brian lives a life of jokes and comedy sketches, creating exaggerated characters from their own lives, in order to avoid the pain and frustration he feels. The play reaches a dramatic climax with a decision made under extreme hopelessness, frustration and anger that could change Brian, Sheila and Joe's life forever. Challenging, funny and uncomfortably honest!
Theatr Ffynnon gives time and space to learning and physically disabled people to express themselves through drama, music, dance and the creative arts leading to performances which create opportunities to develop artistic skills, independence and integration with the local community. The Joe Egg project is very much about the process of presenting a play: the twist on the play itself where Theatr Ffynnon’s membership, under professional guidance will undertake production, stage management, costume design, marketing and front of house although the play will have a cast of professional actors.
