THE HORRIBLE HISTORIES AT THE NEW THEATRE

THE HORRIBLE HISTORIES AT THE NEW THEATRE History comes to life on the New Theatre stage from Tuesday 24 June when the Birmingham Stage Company return with their latest instalment from Terry Deary’s best-selling Horrible Histories books – The Terrible Tudors and The Vile Victorians.

Following on from their phenomenal success with The Ruthless Romans and The Awful Egyptians, these thrilling adaptations of the hugely popular books use actors and amazing Bogglevision 3D special effects to show what it was really like to live in the Tudor and Victorian periods.

From the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth, the audience will hear the legends (and the lies!) about the torturing Tudors, discover the fate of Henry VIII’s headless wives and his punch up with the Pope and experience the Spanish Armada as it sails towards them!

In the Vile Victorians, audiences discover whether they could survive the grime of the 19th century mines, dodge the rotton railway and find out what on earth a baby farmer did!

Birmingham Stage Company are one of the UK’s most successful companies at staging children’s classics for family audiences. Their past triumphs include Kensuke’s Kingdom, George’s Marvelous Medicine and Tom’s Midnight Garden. With a hugely talented cast and incredible special effects, these funny and informative shows expose the really ‘yucky’ bits that books never tell.

Hailed as The Outstanding Children’s Non-Fiction Author of the 20th Century, Terry Deary has published over 140 books, many for children, of which his Horrible Histories series is by far the most popular. The Terrible Tudors in particular, won The Best Book of Knowledge of All Time at the 2002 Blue Peter Awards. Among countless accolades Deary was the most borrowed non-fiction author of either adult or children’s material in British libraries in 2003 for two consecutive years. The same year he dominated the Bookseller charts for children’s non-fiction, occupying all the positions in the top 10.
