ANTONY COSTA IS ALADDIN!

ANTONY COSTA IS ALADDIN! Cardiff’s New Theatre today announced the final addition to this year’s Aladdin pantomime cast. Joining the star names announced back in May will be Antony Costa, member of the hugely successful boy band Blue. Taking the title role, Antony will appear alongside Coronation Street’s Chris Gascoyne, Cardiff panto regulars Andy Jones and Gemma James and, as Widow Twankey, the one and only Ceri Dupree. The show opens on Saturday 13 December.

In 2001 at the age of 20 Antony shot to fame as a member of the multi-million selling boy band Blue, whose hits included All Rise and One Love. Selling millions of records, they played to sell out crowds in huge arenas all over the world. They received numerous awards including Best Newcomer 2002 and Best Pop Act 2003 at The Brits. Blue also collaborated with Stevie Wonder and Elton John. Since leaving Blue Antony has appeared in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here on TV, the touring stage musical Oh! What a Night and the West End production of Blood Brothers.

For his 71 performances as Aladdin, Antony will fall hopelessly in love with the Princess, be tricked by the wicked Abanazer and, of course, ultimately save the day. The pantomime will feature all the traditional elements of singing, dancing and comedy plus the Amazing 3D Genie who will astound even the most seasoned of panto-goers.

New Theatre Manager, Susan Lewis, says “I’m over the moon to be announcing that Antony Costa will be taking the title role in this year’s New Theatre pantomime. He tops a quite brilliant cast for Christmas. Tickets went on sale back in December and to date are ahead of all previous years. We’re all looking forward to welcoming Antony and the rest of the company to the New for what we expect to be another record-breaking season.”

Aladdin will be at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Saturday 13 December 2008 to Saturday 24 January 2009. Tickets are on sale now and can be booked via the Box Office on (029) 2087 8889 or online at www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk (online bookings carry a small transaction charge).
