Get Creative…Get Training! Bridgend County Borough Council’s Creative Industries Training Scheme offers opportunities and career paths in a variety of art forms including directing, producing, choreography, project management, set and costume design, stage management, sound and lighting, film, arts marketing and much more.

Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts & Culture Service, this FREE ongoing training scheme set up two years ago, is open to people of all ages from 15 years plus, regardless of past experience. The hub of the activity is at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl, but we also operate from other theatres and arts venues around the county borough. Trainees will have the opportunity to work with a variety of professional organisations including ITV Wales, theatre companies, film projects, Arts Council of Wales and Bridgend County Borough Council’s very own Bridgend Youth Theatre and arts development projects including Surf Cult 2008.

Over the last two years, over 100 trainees of all ages have taken part in the scheme and have gone on to secure professional technical jobs in the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl and Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre with many more going on to further education to develop their newly developed skills to degree level.

“This is an ongoing training scheme to gain practical, hands-on training in a wide range of areas of the performing arts. Trainees will get to work on real productions with professional companies and will gain nationally recognised qualifications that will kick-start their careers in the creative industries”

Guy O’Donnell, Creative Industries Co-ordinator, Arts & Culture Service – Bridgend County Borough Council

Previously funded by the Arts Council of Wales, other partners include ITV Wales, the Arts Council of Wales, Diversions, HiJinx Theatre, Spectacle Theatre, Blaengarw Workmen’s Hall, Maesteg Town Hall and Theatre Na Nog.
