If we consider that a drop of water holds the chemical resource for life, then a glass of water must surely hold a thousand stories. Every one of us has significant experience with of water – too much of it, too little of it, water within us, water around us. The innovative and challenging Volcano Theatre Company are once again taking this vast a potent subject matter and bringing it to life on stage in their production of A Few Little Drops, which features for three dates only at the National Waterfront Museum Swansea from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th September. Swansea-based Volcano Theatre Company have been touring their bold, exuberant brand of theatre for over 20 years around 38 countries ranging from Argentina to Azerbaijin and have brought back their most ambitious production to date following the success of its last tour. Speaking about A Few Little Drops, Fern Smith, Artistic Director of Volcano explained: “As always, our aim is to enliven our audience with the production and the theatrical experience, but this time we also want to inspire them to think and talk about water-the world’s most precious substance”. To create such a unique performance piece from this vast subject matter, Volcano has collaborated with a series of skilled performers and Welsh poet Robert Minhinnick, creating a fluid blend of words and diverse performance styles including dance, film, mime and theatre. Joining the tour is the award winning playwright Philip Ralph and Matilda Leyser, a successful circus aerialist and physical performer. Philip and Matilda will perform with along side many talented actors to create this thrilling and original interactive production. Such a special theatre experience demanded a particular environment in which to enjoy, so the large outdoor structure referred to as the ‘container’ is being resurrected for these exclusive dates. Designed by Miranda Melville, it is made up of three interconnecting spaces that hold both the show and the audience, through which the audience will journey with performers. A Few Little Drops has proved popular with all ages, whether it be families, schoolchildren or adults, it is an intriguing and thought provoking experience, helping to explore the properties of water and to discover new thoughts and ideas about this life giving element. A Few Little Drops completed a popular UK tour in 2007 with a sell-out show in the Edinburgh Fringe. It returns to Swansea in September for a limited time only before beginning its tour in Vancouver. |
