Arts Board vital to strategic development of the Arts in Wales says Heritage Minister
|
Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones chaired his first meeting of the Arts Strategy Board today (25 September).
Alun Fred Jones said: “The Arts Strategy Board plays a vital role in ensuring arts policy is developed in a coherent and cross-cutting manner. The arts in Wales are flourishing and the Welsh Assembly Government is committed to ensuring they can be enjoyed by everyone in Wales. The board is helping to achieve this through looking at the arts in a more strategic way, developing new and more effective ways of working across traditional boundaries.”
During the meeting the Board discussed a number of issues including:
Initial proposals for a scoping study into a pilot regional partnership in North Wales
The official sign off for ACW’s Artform strategies
Joint ACW/Welsh Assembly Government update on work to create stronger links between arts and health
This meeting was also the first time Nick Capaldi, the new Chief Executive of the Arts Council of Wales, has attended the Arts Strategy Board.
Nick Capaldi said: "Supporting vibrant and excellent arts activity, and bringing it within reach of the widest possible audience across Wales, is very much at the heart of the Arts Council of Wales' future ambitions. The Arts Strategy Board provides an essential vehicle for us to work positively with the Welsh Assembly Government to ensure that these ambitions become reality."
The next meeting of the Arts Strategy Board will be held in December. |
