A CALL FOR THE REINSTATEMENT OF FUNDING FOR NEW WRITING. -

In the light of ACW's U turn over its policy for Theatre for Young People, it is ironic that the only provision now to be cut as part of the Drama Strategy is that for New Writing - the provision prioritised for development by the ACW in its Drama Strategy.

Made in Wales and Dalier Sylw , the two New Writing companies currently funded by the ACW , receive £129,000 respectively, making a total of £258,000 for the development and production of New Writing in both languages. The funding offered under the ACW's New Writing Initiative for a new bilngual company is £170,000 - a cut of £88,000 for specialist new writing work.

We, the three companies currently awaiting ACW's decision on the New Writing Initiative for the forming of the Bilingual New Writing Company, call on ACW to reinstate the proposed £88,000 cut from New Writing.
