Mid Wales Opera Spin A Tall Tale In Llanelli!
|
One of Britain’s foremost touring companies Mid Wales Opera are back at Llanelli’s Theatr Elli by popular demand with Offenbach’s The Tales Of Hoffman, October 2.
Following their highly successful and critically acclaimed production of Puccini’s La Bohème and the enchanting and stunning interpretation of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, Mid Wales Opera will be turning to less familiar repertoire this year with a brand new production of Offenbach’s final masterpiece The Tales of Hoffmann. Specially translated into English by director Tim Hopkins, conducted by Keith Darlington and accompanied by the Mid Wales Opera Chamber Orchestra, The Tales Of Hoffman promises to be one of Mid Wales Opera’s most original and absorbing productions.
In his last and greatest opera, Offenbach succeeded in combining all the melodic beauty and dramatic genius that characterised his earlier works in what was, for him, a totally new direction. The opera's celebrated arias and ensembles, including the ‘Barcarolle’, the ‘Doll’s Song’ and the ‘Diamond Aria’, are set within a constantly changing framework, where comedy, tragedy, reality and the supernatural continually vie with each other in kaleidoscopic variety. The result is theatre at its most enthralling, capable of inspiring a spectacle that will appeal to theatre-goers of all ages. An exhilarating evening of theatre, tailor-made for Mid Wales Opera’s uniquely entertaining and thought-provoking style.
