Frank Vickery’s ingenious comedy EROGENOUS ZONES is coming to Blackwood Miners’ Institute from Monday 27th October to Thursday 30th October at 7.30pm.
Directed by Phil Clark and starring Ian H Watkins, from pop super-group Steps and fresh from the hit musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, this bittersweet drama is Frank Vickery’s most slick and sophisticated writing to date.
The comedy is set over a bank holiday week-end and explores the relationship of Michael, who is in love with his flat-mate, who in turn is having an affair with Lesley, whose husband Tom seeks respite from their disintegrating marriage in the arms of Alison! Confused? So are they! In this bitter-sweet comedy Vickery weaves a web of sexual intrigue around five hormonally challenged individuals.
Ian H Watkins was born in the Rhondda and shot to fame as the hyperactive H in the pop super-group Steps. He starred as Joseph in the smash hit musical Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and this summer was the menacing and evil Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Wales Millennium Centre. Last autumn he starred in another of Frank’s brilliant dramas, A Night On The Tiles, which toured to critical acclaim, and Frank can’t wait to welcome him back;
Frank explains, “I’m delighted that Ian has chosen to join us once more, he was a massive hit last autumn and audiences loved him. I am really looking forward to working with him again.”
Frank Vickery started writing whilst still in school and had his first major success at the age of twenty-one when his first comedy ‘After I’m Gone’ won the Howard De Waldon Trophy for the best one act play in Great Britain. He now writes extensively for the theatre, radio and television and was recently the subject of a major documentary by BBC Television called ’On Show: Kiss and Tell’.
Phil Clarke has directed over 45 productions for the Sherman Theatre Company on stage, television and radio. In 1993 he was nominated BBC Artist of the Year.
Tickets for Erogenous Zones cost £10.50 with £9.50 concessions and are available now from the Box Office on 01495 227206.
