Help Bridgend’s New Writing Squad Bring History Alive…. Bridgend’s New Young Writers Squad is working with Welsh Hollywood script writer Katherine Chandler to create a play based on Bridgend’s rich history and is looking for local stories from the public.

Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts & Culture Service in conjunction with Academi – Welsh Literature Council for Wales, young people aged 12 – 18 years from the county

borough will be exploring new opportunities for creative writing through poetry, scriptwriting, journalism, fiction etc.

The squad’s first project will be to create fictionalised Face Book entries based on real people from Bridgend County Borough’s past. For example; a miner who could have heard Paul

Robeson’s transatlantic exchange which was secretly broadcast to hundreds gathered for the Miners' Eisteddfod in Porthcawl's Grand Pavilion, perhaps an audience member at the

infamous ‘Brawl in Porthcawl’ or the wife of one the RNLI crew who perished during the attempt to save the lives of the crew of the Samptampa in 1947.The Squads research will be

developed into a play due to be performed by Bridgend Youth Theatre in July 09.
