On the Edge presents The Druid's Rest
|
The next production in Michael Kelligan’s highly successful On The Edge project, a series of script held performances started at the Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff in 2004 and now also touring to The Riverfront Theatre, Newport and The Parc and Dare Theatre, Treorchy will be Mostyn-born Emlyn Williams’ early hilarious comedy thriller The Druid’s Rest.
Williams began his career in 1927 and went on to become one of Wales’ first leading film stars, playwrights and theatre producers, performing with such leading lights of the age as Bette Davis and Deborah Kerr. Almost twenty years on he met up with and became a guru to another Welsh actor who was to go on to achieve even greater international fame, the boy from Pontrhydyfen Richard Burton. He gave Burton his first West-End role playing Glan, the elder son of the landlord, Job, in a play set in the back parlour of the Druid’s Rest, a small public house somewhere in Wales.
Playing the part of Glan in this production and no doubt hoping to follow in the footsteps of the great Hollywood star will be Cardiff based actor and musician, who shares North Wallian origins with Emlyn Williams, Glenn Jones. On television Glenn has appeared in Dr Who for the BBC and the S4C series Cowbois ac Injans and Tipyn o Stad. He has also appeared with Sherman Cymru and Spectacle Theatre. He is a leading member of Cwmni Theatr 3D, run by another highly talented emerging Welsh actor Gareth John Bale currently appearing in The Wales Theatre Company’s Romeo and Juliet. In 3D’s recent production Zufall in Cardiff both of these exciting young actors garnered great praise for their talent and professionalism.
The performance can be seen Chapter, Cardiff 15 October 8pm. The Riverfront Newport 16 Oct 7.45pm and The Parc and Dare Treorchy 17 Oct 7.30pm.
