![]() Despite being beset by some unusually tricky moments since their tour began at the end of September, one of Wales’ leading small scale theatre companies, Hijinx Theatre, are on schedule to make a welcome return to the Torch next Tuesday [28 October]. The Other Woman is a powerful piece of theatre about the resilience of the human spirit and how far people will go to survive through the harshest of times. It seems however that the Company have had their own harsh times to deal with since the launch of their tour. “…One venue in the West Midlands was burnt down by an arson attack and the show had to be relocated at very short notice. Another newly finished venue in Wales had a leak in the ceiling and we almost had to cancel - thankfully it stopped raining just in time! “ commented the Company’s Marketing Manager, Emma Robinson “…. As you can imagine, we’re looking forward to using the Torch’s brand new facilities!” she added. Set in rural Wales during the epic events of The First World War, The Other Woman deals with people struggling to maintain their lives in a world where their moral touchstones have been shattered. In this year which marks the 90th Anniversary of the Armistice, it’s both exciting and sobering to look back at such a cataclysmic period in our history – at a time when the world was changed forever. The play is based around a young woman left alone with her baby and a broken plough, when her husband goes off to fight in the Great War. Protected only by the rugged landscape surrounding her isolated cottage in the heart of the South Wales’ valleys she is shocked when a desperate stranger breaks in, but sees an opportunity which can benefit them both. Together they find an unusual solution to explain his presence at the farm….. The Other Woman, performed by Hijinx, can be seen at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Tuesday 28th October and continues to tour both Wales and England until 15 November. Tickets for the performances at the Torch Theatre and further information on their season of live entertainment can be had by calling their Box Office on 01646 695267 or by visiting their website on www.torchtheatre.co.uk |
