Evita at the New Theatre

Evita at the New Theatre Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s extraordinary musical EVITA comes to the New Theatre from Monday 10 November after an absence of more than 10 years. This hugely successful show is back in a spectacular new production from Bill Kenwright and the Really Useful Company.

EVITA is the story of a poor but ambitious young woman who seduces and manipulates her way to the top of the social ladder to marry Argentine Dictator Juan Peron. Despite dying at the early age of 33, she had acquired extreme wealth and power. Her commitment to her charitable causes led many to regard her as a saint. Not everyone was taken in by her charismatic persona, however. Eva was met with opposition from politicians, the military and many Argentineans who saw through the glamour and the inspirational speeches.

This breathtaking show is packed with famous and inspiring songs, including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus and Another Suitcase in Another Hall. The 1996 film version that featured Madonna as Eva, included a new song, You Must Love Me. The song won an Oscar and was subsequently incorporated into the stage production.

In one of the most coveted theatrical roles of all, Louise Dearman has received rave reviews for her performance as the compelling Eva Peron with critics already drawing comparisons with Elaine Paige.

Seamus Cullen, a finalist in BBC’s Any Dream Will Do, plays Ché, a young Argentinean and the story’s narrator, who becomes increasingly disillusioned with Eva Peron’s misuse of money and power. Director Bill Kenwright, one of the judges on the Saturday evening TV show, hand-picked Seamus for this role.

EVITA was the brainchild of visionaries Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Along with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar it was so successful that their pair believed they would never be able to top it! Evita took its first steps in 1978 with Elaine Paige playing Argentina’s dynamic First Lady. Since then it has gone from strength to strength winning more than 20 major awards worldwide.

EVITA at the New Theatre is enjoying high ticket sales and it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment for the theatrical event of the year!
Evita is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Monday 10 – Saturday 22 November. Tickets range from £8.50 - £35 and can booked via the Box Office on 029 2087 8889 or online* at www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk.
