Bridgend County Borough Council offering free accredited arts training for 16 to 18 year olds in the New Year As part of Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts & Culture Service’s development of the Creative Industries Training Scheme and Bridgend Youth Dance, young people aged 16 – 18 years will be given the unique opportunity to study for Open College Network arts qualifications in the New Year – free of charge.

Working in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council’s Adult Community Education department, OCN Unit trainees from the Creative Industries Scheme will study stage management, props and scenery, lighting and set design, public address PA system, setting up and running a vocal PA and back line. Members of Bridgend Youth Dance will study contemporary dance technique, vocabulary & styles.

The Creative Industries Training Scheme is an ongoing project set up two years ago with funding from the Arts Council of Wales which offers free training as a kick start to a possible career in the creative industries. Trainees work in all areas of the theatre overseen by professional tutors to work on productions, with professional companies and practitioners. Open to all ages, no experience is required.

Bridgend Youth Dance also supported by the Arts Council of Wales is open to those aged 7 – 25 years encouraging participation through workshops,
educational visits and performances. Young dancers have the opportunity to input their own ideas and to work alongside professional dance artists
to devise material for productions, acting as a “stepping stone” for those wishing to pursue careers in the dance industry.
