![]() A taste of new and exciting dance free in the foyer before this seasons dance performances at Taliesin, Riverfront and Wales Millennium Centre. Dance Shorts! is an opportunity for Welsh audiences to see10 minutes of fresh hot dance from emergent dance artists. Arrive 30 minutes before the main show to catch a stunning new Dance Short! that’s sure to whet your appetite for the main event. DANCE SHORTS! is a new partnership between venues and artists made possible with a grant from the Arts Council of Wales. The initiative commissions two dance artists to create ten minutes of fresh and exciting dance performed free in the foyer 30 minutes before the main dance performance. These take place at The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre in Newport, Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and Taliesin Arts Centre in Swansea between October 2008 and February 2009. The second dance artist selected to create work for Dance Shorts! is Swansea based Douglas Comley, whose new company MANYX Dance Theatre presents ‘Rumble in The Foyer” .Two men slug it out driving through a cliché of film fights. From reality into fantasy from the down right ugly to beauty these meandering men just don’t know when to stop. Further Information: Dance Shorts! is a new Promoter / Presenter Partnership idea initiated by Emma Carlson, Artistic Director of Carlson Dance Company in partnership with Nic Young Director of the Riverfront in Newport and Judi Hughes Director of Park & Dare Theatre in Treorchy and Chair of Creu Cymru’s Dance Committee. There has been consultation over a ten-month period with additional key personnel in the arts sector in Wales in developing the idea to the funding application stage, including Carole Blade at Welsh Independent Dance, Louise Miles Crust Theatre Programmer at Wales Millennium Centre, Deborah Keyser at Creu Cymru, Rebecca Tamplin at Audiences Wales and Roy Campbell Moore at Diversions. And additional consultation with Lauren Scholey Executive Director of Candoco Dance Company, who regularly perform at the Riverfront in Newport. The highly positive feedback received during the consultation period suggested a need for a project such as Dance Shorts! in Wales.
