Mappa Mundi Return With Hilarious Adaptation of Classic Social Comedy |
![]() With an outrageous mix of secret elopements and nocturnal confusions, this satirical poke at polite society paints a ribald and hilarious portrait of life and love in the town and country with mistaken identities, acts of blatant greed, selfishness and plain stupidity. She Stoops to Conquer is Guest Directed by Peter Doran, Artistic Director of The Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, who was also made Honorary Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2006. He has himself has enjoyed acclaim on both side of the camera and curtain – even once appearing as Dirty Den’s cell mate in Eastenders. He comments : ‘When asked what I’d like to direct, She Stoops to Conquer was my first choice, not only is it a brilliant comedy, it’s also perfectly suited to Mappa Mundi. Although written in the 18th century the characters seen totally real and in many ways very modern; its themes of snobbery, class and society are as relevant today as they’ve ever been and young people having to cope with the rigors of everyday life whilst trying to find both themselves and a partner is both fascinating and enormously resonant.’ She Stoops to Conquer also stars Kieran Self, dentist from BBC’s My Family and Welsh Rugby Scrum IV’s Richard Nichols. She Stoops to Conquer is on at Sherman from 5 – 6 May. Tickets are £14, Reductions £12, Under 19s £8 and can be booked from Sherman’s Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or online at www.shermancymru.co.uk (No Booking Fee). |
