Diversions dancers create cutting-edge choreography
|
Hot on the heels of the Dance Company of Wales’ highly praised spring tour two company members have now created two cutting-edge, radical works to be performed in June.
Joanne Fong and Viivi Kenskisen unite with their fellow company dancers, designers from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and live musicians for Alternative Routes.
There will be three evening performances of this exciting summer evening of fresh dance at the Dance House at Wales Millennium Centre. The performances of Alternative Routes are on 16, 17 & 18 June.
Alternative Routes is run yearly by Diversions to encourage and develop choreographic talent and is at the heart of the Company’s role in leading dance development in Wales.
Last year, Joanne Fong choreographed ‘Falling’ for this annual performance and collaborated with musician Rakhi Singh who was specially commissioned for the project.
Joanne Fong, the Company’s rehearsal director, has been making work for the last 12 years exploring both theatrical and abstract forms.
Her work will comprise five dancers performing with verve and a biting momentum, within a 360 degree multimedia landscape of live music.
Also choreographing is Diversions’ dancer Viivi Keskinen whose first work with the Company, Wonderland, was performed as part of Departure Terminal, Diversions’ annual end of year event.
The attention grabbing piece was excellently received with the work described as; “sexy and rough, in some ways frighteningly intellectual and emotional from a choreographer so young”.
Artistic Director Ann Sholem said: “Joanne and Viivi are extremely talented artists who have already created some exceptional, fresh choreography here at the Dance House. I can’t wait to present the new works that I know will be bold and radical, continuing our work at the national dance company of Wales, fostering and developing dance talent.”
The Alternative Routes performance is on 16/17/18 June at 8pm and lasts for around 90 minutes.
