Cardiff-based circus company bring acclaimed show back to hometown A woman crossing a tightrope while wearing high heels; another hula-hooping with a ring of fire; and a basket descending from the sky revealing a perfectly in-tact plate of spaghetti.

All this and more will be coming to Wales Millennium Centre in September as No Fit State Circus bring their new critically-acclaimed show, tabú to the capital.

tabú is a new journey and exploration into the darker side of being. It asks why we make the choices we do, and whether our decisions are somehow pre-determined for us? It isn’t a freak show, it isn’t voyeurism. It explores who we are as people and why we behave as we do.

This turbo charged, ninety-minute, life changing roller coaster ride will challenge all your preconceptions of what you imagine a circus to be as cutting edge circus, performance, live music, and video combine.

The show – which is suitable for all ages – will take place in a giant silver spaceship big top specially-erected outside Wales Millennium Centre, on Roald Dahl Plas in Cardiff Bay. But rather than a traditional seated show, audiences will be immersed in a promenade performance, taking place above, around and among them in an explosion of furious fun and choreographed mayhem.

Cardiff-based No Fit State Circus are an award-winning, critically-acclaimed company and the leading UK contemporary circus company. They are the second largest producing arts company in Wales after Welsh National Opera.

Their last production Immortal achieved cult status on the European circus circuit and won prestigious awards at several international festivals. Likewise, tabú was well-greeted by the national press when it premiered in London’s Roundhouse Theatre earlier this year.

This is a rare chance to catch them on home turf in a show that pushes boundaries and challenges preconceptions.

“…an achingly beautiful two hours of circus performance, in which idea and
form seem perfectly matched.” The Guardian

“…watching this show makes you tingle with a sense of being alive. If I were 20 years younger, I would sign up for trapeze lessons immediately.” The Guardian

“…this is circus redefined” What’s On Stage

“The combination of emotionally-charged live music, dramatically shadowed lighting and spectacular acrobatics is utterly intoxicating - Tabú is engaging, wholly entertaining and unstoppable.” What’s On Stage

“Tabù is a friendly show, energetic and enthusiastic.” The Independent

“I was completely absorbed, involved and moved by the whole
experience and I would encourage you to waltz on down there and grab
a lovely memory for the bank.” Run-riot.com

“I have never seen a circus with rougher edges, or indeed one with more performers who look as though they have been living on the outer margins of society for so long. But boy, do they put on a show.” The Telegraph
tabú is funded by Art Councils of England and Wales and the PRS Foundation.

tabú will be at Roald Dahl Plas, outside Wales Millennium Centre, from September 11-27. The show is suitable for all ages. For more information, or to book tickets, please call the box office on 08700 40 2000 or visit www.wmc.org.uk
