"Under the Carpet" in Korea

With excited responses from audiences in Prague, Edinburgh and London, the team who created and perform Theatr Iolo’s hugely successful show for early years Under the Carpet is now enthralling audiences in Seoul, with six performances at the ASSITEJ Korea Festival.
Under the Carpet was first seen by an international audience at the Agor Drysau Festival in Aberystwyth which launched the tour that has taken the production across the world. The tour was first invited to Imaginate, the UKs largest performing arts festival for children and young people. This was the third time Theatr Iolo has performed at this prestigious festival.
“An engaging and quirky show. Very funny and hugely enjoyable for young and old alike.”
Tony Reekie, Imaginate Festival Director

Under the Carpet performances received praise from adults and children alike, not only at Imaginate but also at the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon. Audiences at the Unicorn Theatre in London were equally entranced:

Stephen Hickman and Jak Poore perform brilliantly and never fail to captivate their audience. As the performance ended, my four-year-old daughter Lucy’s expert verdict was: “Why have they gone? Where have they gone? Are they coming back? Can we see it again?” High praise indeed.

Under the Carpet is created exclusively using the words of 3 and 4 year olds, adapted from a Theatr Iolo project “Suitcase Full of Stories” (www.theatriolo.com). Freelance director Sarah Argent visited schools with a suitcase containing objects and encouraged children to create stories, recording them verbatim.

These stories have been immortalised in Under the Carpet, entrancing children and adults alike. While other theatre companies across Europe have developed stories of young children, Theatr Iolo believes it is the first in using the words of such young children.

“I brought my 3-year old son – thank you for inspiring such a young mind!”, Dylan’s Mum
“one of the best pieces of theatre I have seen this year”, Western Mail, national newspaper of Wales

The creator and director of Under the Carpet, Sarah Argent, is a recipient of the prestigious Creative Wales Award, using it to research theatre for babies and toddlers she is currently exploring work for even younger audiences with her new show created especially for babies “Out of the Blue”.
