![]() By Caryl Churchill Directed by Harry Durnall Production date Thursday 12th November One of the most interesting and controversial plays of 2009 is shortly to be staged at Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Louche Theatre and Aberystwyth Arts Centre are presenting ‘Seven Jewish Children’ by Caryl Churchill, Directed by Harry Durnall , on Thursday 12th November at 7.30 pm. When first presented at the Royal Court Theatre in London in February this year, the play caused a worldwide reaction due to its political stance. It is a short history of Israel….moving from the Holocaust, through the foundation of the state of Israel, the sundry Middle East wars and ends with the invasion of Gaza. It shows in a remarkably condensed, poetic form the transition that has taken place within Israel…. Director, Harry Durnall says “ We hope to raise as much money as possible to help those less fortunate than us. This exciting new work by Caryl Churchill written for that very purpose, shows how theatre can react to a situation and do something about it “ Both Louche Theatre and Aberystwyth Arts Centre are giving their time and facilities free of charge. The actors will be joined on stage by Cor Gobaith, Aberystwyth own Choir of Hope, who will be very much part of the performance, interspersing the seven short scenes with songs. Admission is free, but tickets need to be booked by calling the Arts Centre Box office on 01970 623232. Donations will be welcome as all proceeds from the evening will be donated to MAP- Medical Aid to Palestinians Seven Jewish Children is part of Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s Theatre for Change series. |
