DYNAMIC CANTERBURY TALES ROMP TO ABERGAVENNY

DYNAMIC CANTERBURY TALES ROMP TO ABERGAVENNY But their dynamic performance of The Canterbury Tales at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, will prove the stories are as fresh and vivid now as they were in his own day.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 28, 29 and 30 January, the company bring to the stage a highly visual production of Chaucer’s bawdy chronicle with live music.

It is based on the adaptation by Martin Riley that re-interprets this most famous work for a 21st century audience. The music is by Jack Glover.
Chaucer had his finger on the pulse of the common people and this energetic, splendid romp through the taverns and countryside of the middle ages brings us the Pardoner’s Tale, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale, The Wife of Bath, The Knight’s Tale and The Miller’s Tale.

Modern, colourful and bawdy, this is a high energy production with strong characterisation, physical style and constant audience interaction. It is performed in knockabout Commedia style by this dynamic company of young people.

Martin Riley is a writer, storyteller, poet, director and librettist, who was once a regular performer in pubs and on street corners.

His theatre work has its roots in communities and he has devised many children’s comedy drama series which have been nominated for BAFTA, Indie and Royal Television Society awards.

His dramatisation of The Canterbury Tales by Oxford University Press is a great success with young people.

Gwent Young People’s Theatre has a strong reputation for consistently high standards and regularly attract acclaim for their productions.
