WORLD CLASS DANCERS THROW OPEN REHEARSAL DOORS TO INSPIRE ARTISTS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS

WORLD CLASS DANCERS THROW OPEN REHEARSAL DOORS TO INSPIRE ARTISTS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS Atmospheric, striking and utterly stunning – National Dance Company Wales take to the stage in spectacular style next week when they perform their latest double bill at the Torch Theatre [Wednesday 3 & Thursday 4 February].

Earlier this year the contemporary dance company Diversions changed its name to National Dance Company Wales, underlining both its connection with Wales and the level of prestige it has achieved. Now firmly established at Cardiff's Millennium Centre, it is still a relief to see that the company has not compromised its ability to challenge audiences with exciting and mesmerising displays of technical skill and superb international choreography.

Pure theatrical spectacle in exciting bursts of two contrasting pieces, the first dance in the Company’s latest show features sequined dancers masked in gold moving around a smoke filled stage with an astounding blend of fluidity of movement, athleticism and sheer energy. Rhythm and beat is of course fundamental to a dance piece and in the second dance, the totally hypnotic music for Six Marimbas from world famous composer and musician Steve Reich just adds to the magic (think Tubular Bells and you’ll get the idea).

And if you are still trying to recover from the festive period, then this lively Company have also come up with the perfect way for you to re-energise both the body and the spirit by flinging open the doors of their rehearsal session on the Torch stage to budding artists and photographers and also offering a ninety minute dance workshop for those who are feeling a bit more energetic.

A unique opportunity for adults who are interested in dance to help improve fitness or who want to learn more about contemporary dance, the workshop, led by world-class dancers, also provides a fascinating insight into the Company’s performance and what life is like for a professional dancer.

The National Dance Company Wales can be seen at the Torch Theatre on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 February. To reserve seats call the Torch Theatre Box Office on 01646 695267 or visit www.torchtheatre.co.uk. Their Dance Workshop takes place on the Torch stage, on Tuesday 2nd February from 6:30 – 8:00pm, and the Open Rehearsal for Artists and Photographers takes place on Wednesday 3 February between 2.30 and 4.00pm.
