Strike Hits Carmarthenshire Theatres 25 Years On

Strike Hits Carmarthenshire Theatres 25 Years On A very new drama with a fresh take on the Miners’ Strike that hit the UK in the eighties comes to Carmarthenshire Theatres venues courtesy of Mess Up The Mess Theatre Company’s latest production. Jointly presented by the Ammanford Youth Council, Strike 25 Streic is at Ammanford Miners’ Theatre, 19-20 February, Llanelli’s Theatr Elli 5 March and Carmarthen’s Lyric 6 March.

Strike 25 Streic is an evocative and challenging multimedia production commemorating a quarter of a century since the miners’ strike of 1984. Young people of Ammanford have been working alongside professional artists to create a vibrant and dynamic performance of conflict and allegiance, pinpointing the highs and lows of this controversial time from the perspective of local women. This production is the result of months of research and interviews with local residents which revealed unique and interesting stories of how the people of the area dealt with the industrial action.

This follows successful Mess Up The Mess productions including Christmas favourite Dick Whittington and Strangers, an exciting multi-media piece which saw the cast of young people embarking on an international collaboration with Slough’s Piece Of Pie Theatre and working with professional theatre practitioners from Nelson, New Zealand.

Tickets, priced £5.50 - £6.50, with tickets at £4.50 each for groups of 10+, are available now from the box office: 0845 226 3510
