Young folk create mythical creatures for March of the Giants parade... |
![]() March of the Giants will see the Welsh characters of myth and legend brought to life on the streets of Newport. Young people have been working alongside Malarky Arts, who have worked on hundreds of events in the UK and beyond, to ensure the parade is colourful and vibrant. The parade will be led by thundering samba drummers and the eye-catching procession will weave its way through the city centre. The pages of the Mabinogion will come to life and youngsters will be dressed as druids and the mythical history of Wales will be replicated through the giant figures of characters such as Rhiannon, Teyrnon, Cernunnos, Blodeuwedd and Ceridwen complete with cauldron and Taliesin. Helping to make these characters have been pupils from Newport schools, who will also take part in the parade. More than 500 participants will be in the parade which will start in John Frost Square, travel along Commercial Street, High Street, Market Street, Upper Dock Street and Griffin Road before returning through High Street, Commercial Street and finishing back in John Frost Square. Everyone is invited to join in and take place in the parade! If you’d like to help out, just turn up at 12pm on John Frost Square and look for the giants! On returning to John Frost Square there will be a special performance from the samba band, a welcome from the Mayor Councillor Glyn Jarvis, followed by staged entertainment from the legendary Paddy the Clown with George Orange, who will also act as compere for the afternoon. |
