![]() Alfred Russel Wallace was a Welshman and an inspirational character who cracked the theory of evolution by natural selection, and then told Charles Darwin. The rest as they say is history, but little is known of this great man of science who since his death in 1913 has been overshadowed by Darwin. Neath based, Theatr na n’Og aim to put the record straight and introduce young audiences to the man who spurred Darwin to produce his seminal work “On The Origin of Species”. Geinor Styles, writer and director says “The work of Wallace is truly inspirational. Self educated, he never stopped being intrigued and amazed by the world around him, and was never afraid to ask difficult questions that flew in the face of the establishment. He showed profound humanity in questioning the status quo for a more just society. I believe we could all take a leaf from his book.” The production has just finished a sell out run at Garth Olwg Lifelong Learning Centre in Church Village as part of National Science and Engineering Week and is already garnering international interest from science museums all over the world including Brazil and New York, ensuring that this humble scientist from Usk is never forgotten. “You Should Ask Wallace” will be performed at Ceredigion Museum, Aberystwyth on March 17th and 18th 2010. Theatr na n’Og is a registered charity that provides theatre in Welsh and English for children and young people in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend, and receives funding from the Arts Council of Wales, City and County of Swansea, Neath-Port Talbot Borough Council and the County Borough of Bridgend.
