MORECAMBE

MORECAMBE Theatr Mwldan, in association with Theatr Tours International and Feather Productions, is delighted to announce the Wales tour of Morecambe in June. Direct from the West End, this Olivier award winning production an affectionate and entertaining theatrical tribute to ‘the tall one with the glasses’ who stood alongside Ernie Wise forming a comic partnership that would last an astonishing forty-three years.

In ‘the performance of a lifetime’ (The Guardian), actor Bob Golding hurtles through the triumphs and tribulations in the life of 1971’s Pipe Smoker Of The Year – from his humble beginnings days as a lad from Lancashire singing for pies and peas, through the giddy heyday of variety and summer season to his rightful status as a national treasure in the hearts of almost thirty million TV viewers. The play also examines Eric’s relationship with his ambitious mother, his struggles with ill-health and how his partnership with Ernie survived a long arduous road to fame and fortune.

This exciting and original work, written by Tim Whitnall and directed by solo-maestro Guy Masterson, had it’s debut at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe enjoying full houses, standing ovations and dazzling reviews, culminating in a prestigious Scotsman Fringe First Award for ‘innovation and outstanding new writing’. It’s also picked up glowing tributes from many celebrities – several of whom had known or formerly worked with Eric himself.
