MAMMA MIA! - It’s Brides On The Run, for Real!

MAMMA MIA! - It’s Brides On The Run, for Real! Real Radio in association with Wales Millennium Centre and MAMMA MIA! today launched an exclusive on-air competition to celebrate the worldwide smash-hit musical coming to Wales in November.

‘Bride on the Run’ will see one lucky couple win the wedding of a lifetime, but the bride will have to complete a series of tricky tasks to win her dream day.

Launching the competition at Wales Millennium Centre, Real Breakfast Show presenters Jagger and Woody were joined by a clutch of ten brides dressed in their wedding dresses going head-to-head in a 100 metre sprint.

Auditions to find five ‘Bride on the Run’ finalists will be held on Sunday 20 June 2010 at Wales Millennium Centre’s special Wedding Fair.

The auditions will take place in front of a panel of judges from Wales Millennium Centre, MAMMA MIA! together with Real Radio’s Jagger and Woody.

These lucky five will be given a week to canvass support ahead of a public online vote on 29th June 2010 when the five bride finalists will be whittled down to just two, for the nail-biting 24-hour long final.

‘Bride on the Run’: The Final, will kick-off at Wales Millennium Centre at 8.00am on Tuesday 29 June 2010 where the remaining two brides will be given £10 each - and 24 hours on the run.

Dressed only in wedding dress, veil and running shoes, the ‘Bride on the Run’ who gets the furthest away – by hook or by crook but spending no more than the £10 they were given – will win. The exclusive prize will include holding their wedding ceremony on the set of the MAMMA MIA! show during its run at Wales Millennium Centre and a dream honeymoon.

Tony Dowling, Station Director at Real Radio said: ‘We were delighted to find the perfect partners for our brand new ‘Bride on the Run’ promotion with Wales Millennium Centre and the worldwide smash-hit, MAMMA MIA! This promises to be one of the most original and fun competitions we have ever broadcast. It’s the race of the bride’s lives.’

Fiona Allan, Artistic Director Wales Millennium Centre added: ‘MAMMA MIA! has already won the hearts of people all across Wales, and tickets for the show are selling quickly. I’m sure that Real Radio’s competition will capture the imagination of brides-to-be across the country.’

Nick Grace, Associate Producer of MAMMA MIA! International Tour said: The ‘Bride on the Run’ competition and the Wedding Fair are the perfect association with MAMMA MIA! The world’s most successful musical, set on a Greek island on the eve of a wedding. We are thrilled to be a part of ‘Bride on the Run’.’

MAMMA MIA! is inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs. Writer Catherine Johnson’s sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
