This summer, Miracle Theatre Company tours a fresh adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless love story, Romeo & Juliet, across south west England and Wales, and comes to Caldicot Castle on Sunday July 4th. But this is no ordinary retelling of a classic tale. Known for its richly inventive and physical theatre, Miracle creates a totally original world where senses soar and humour is found in unexpected places.

Miracle Theatres young lovers inhabit an uneasy, perilous world where families are fiercely
divided and everyone around them is blinded by conflict and hatred. Only a fool would sleep with the enemy. But they are drawn to each other like moths to a flame. Their passion is a pure, bright, blazing refuge where, for a moment, they discover a kind of peace.

“In this play Shakespeare describes the experience of first love with such accuracy, warmth and gentle humour that it rings as unbearably true today as it did 400 years ago,” says director Bill Scott. “At the same time there is no escaping the ironic view of human nature which Shakespeare achieves so effectively by setting his love story in a society traumatised by fear and loathing. Miracle’s challenge is to squeeze comedy and tragedy out of this story in equal measure.”
Romeo & Juliet, a story of young love: innocent, intense, intoxicating – and deadly!

Miracle Theatre Company has been touring innovative comic theatre across the UK since 1979. It is one of Cornwall’s most distinctive voices.
