The X Factor may have launched its search for the next set of stars but Future Dance Cardiff is one step ahead as summerdance 2010 returns to showcase some of Wales’ up and coming talent at the New Theatre on Saturday 7 August.Following the success of the 2009 show, Arts Active will once more join forces with National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) to produce two stunning dance pieces performed by forty of Wales’ most talented dancers. Accompanied by exceptional live music from WNO young players, the cast will demonstrate the technique and discipline at the core of a professional dancer’s practice. Under the direction of NDCWales Artistic Associate, Roy Campbell-Moore the young performers will present two bodies of work, On The Meadow from Carmina Burana and an ensemble piece that will be developed by the group. This performance is the culmination and celebration of a year-round series of training and performance events for young dancers led by NDCWales dancers and choreographers in partnership with Arts Active. Throughout the summer, youngsters aged between 14-24 work alongside professional dancers to create an exhilarating new piece of contemporary dance over the course of a week. Developing their dance skills and techniques and creating and rehearsing their own brand new dance production, each of the participants is carefully selected through an audition process. This is an ideal opportunity for ambitious dancers at the start of their career to collaborate with some of the best professional dancers in Wales. Past students of the summer school have gone on to develop dance careers and attend professional dance schools. summerdance 10 is at the New Theatre on Saturday 7 August at 7.30pm.
