The Big Splash hosts first showing outside Bristol for Invisible Circus' Carny Village

Following a sell-out run as part of Bristol's Mayfest 2010, The Invisible Circus is bringing its flamboyant roadshow, Carny Village, to Newport as part of The Big Splash. The show is at The Riverfront on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 September, at 8pm.

Described by one reviewer as "thought-provoking, entertaining, awe-inspiring, and a bloody good knees-up", the show explores the collision of worlds and clash of cultures when an extraordinary circus comes to an isolated village.

Showcasing the cream of Bristol's circus and theatre talent, the tale unfolds in an explosion of chaos and colour. It features daredevil aerial feats, physical comedy, object manipulation, acro-balance, interactive theatre and live music from its 23-strong cast.

Carny Village was developed by The Invisible Circus as a touring show from its renowned large-scale extravaganza, Carnyville which has had three runs at the company's base at The Island in Bristol attracting audiences of 1,000 every night. Newport is the first port of call for the Carny Village troupe.

"We wanted to create an intimate and innovative theatrical experience out of Carnyville that we could take on the road," said Doug Francis of The Invisible Circus, "and we're thrilled to be bringing it to Newport as part of The Big Splash."

Tickets are £9.50 (£6.50 reductions) and are available from The Riverfront box office on 01633 656679 or www.newport.gov.uk/theriverfront
