A TRIO OF TALKS AT WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE FOR AUTUMN 2010

A TRIO OF TALKS AT WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE FOR AUTUMN 2010 Award-winning screenwriter Catherine Johnson, composer Howard Blake and National Theatre Wales's John McGrath will feature in a trio of talks this autumn, Wales Millennium Centre has announced.

The series begins with Catherine Johnson, best known for writing the script for the musical 'Mamma Mia!' Johnson will talk about writing the script for the smash hit show and the process of bringing it to life on stage. 'In Conversation: Catherine Johnson' is on 15 September 2010.

'Mamma Mia!' will be at Wales Millennium Centre from 16 November 2010 - 23 January 2011. The show has currently sold more than 105,000 tickets in the six months since it went on sale.

Howard Blake is one of the UK's most popular and prolific living composers. His music for Raymond Briggs' 'The Snowman' includes the classic 'Walking in the Air' which helped launch the career of singer Aled Jones. And in a recent poll by 'Classic FM' to find the classical music most popular with children, Walking in the Air reached the number two position just behind John Williams' score for the 'Harry Potter' films.

Ahead of 'The Snowman's' visit to the Centre from the 10-13 November 2010, Howard Blake will discuss the process of writing and adapting music and lyrics for both stage and screen on the 12 October 2010 in 'An Audience with Howard Blake'.

National Theatre Wales launched an ambitious programme of 12 performances in 12 months during 2010-11. On the 24 November 2010, National Theatre Wales's Artistic Director, John McGrath, will look back at the company's first year in existence and its plans for the future, including its association with Wales Millennium Centre. In 'National Theatre Wales: One year on' there will be also be an opportunity for the audience to provide feedback to John and hear about how he intends to take the company into its second full-year of productions.

All three talks will be hosted by Nicola Heywood Thomas and begin at 6.30pm. The talks are free but tickets should be booked beforehand. For further information contact the ticket office on 029 2063 6464 or visit www.wmc.org.uk

The talks form part of a broader programme of free events aimed at bringing audiences closer to the different art forms at the Centre. They include taking part in workshops and classes with the performers, exploring different art forms such as dance and theatre as well as the exhibitions on display and the gigs in the foyer's Glanfa stage.
