![]() Open to people of all ages from 15 years plus, regardless of past experience, the scheme was set up by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts and Community Development with funding from the Arts Council of Wales. The hub of the activity is at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl, but there are opportunities to work in other theatres and arts venues around the county borough. Trainees work closely with professional companies and practitioners when putting together productions and their input in all areas of theatre and performance has a major part in each project or performance. They also work with professional organisations including ITV Wales, theatre companies, film projects, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Youth Theatre and Dance and many art and musical projects. Over 100 trainees of all ages have already taken part in the Creative Industries Training Scheme and have gone on to secure professional technical jobs in the Grand Pavilion and Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre, with many more going on to further education to develop new skills to degree level. Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts Projects Officer, Guy O’Donnell said; “This is an ongoing training scheme to gain practical, hands on training in a wide range of areas of the performing arts. Trainees get to work on real productions with professional companies and will gain nationally recognised qualifications that will kick start their careers in the creative industries.” If you would like further details about the scheme, please call Guy O’Donnell on (01656) 642727 or email: arts@bridgend.gov.uk. |
