They lead a talented cast in this unforgettable tale about an ordinary girl Carrie, and her brother Nick who are evacuated to the Welsh valleys from war torn London. Carrie returns years later as an adult and as her memories start to resurface, she finds herself reliving her adventures and memories of the past. Nina Bawden based her best selling 1973 novel on her own childhood experiences as an evacuee in Wales during the war. Carrie’s War has since been adapted twice for television by the BBC, most recently in 2004, the same year that Bawden receive the prestigious S T Dupont Golden Pen Award for a lifetime’s contribution to literature. This magical and beautifully staged production by Emma Reeves, provides audiences with a true insight into the experiences of 800,000 school age evacuees sent to rural locations from Britain’s major cities during the Second World War.
