Internet ads to Save Gwent Theatre Released The first in a series of adverts in the campaign to save Gwent Theatre is released on the internet.

Filmed by students at the International Film School, Newport, it features Megan Vaughan, a member of Gwent Young People’s Theatre, and is based on Hamlet’s To Be or Not To Be soliloquy.

It was produced and directed by third-year students Paris Palmer and Rob Hancock, whose four-minute film rereleased on Youtube last week has had more than 1,000 hits.

An online petition on the Assembly of Wales website has attracted over 700 signatures and street petitions have been signed by over 2,000 people.

Gregg Taylor, Chair of Gwent Theatre says: “These short films pack a powerful punch. The students used their own initiative and ideas and have done a tremendous job. They made everything in two days and should be proud of their work. It’s capturing worldwide attention.”

The campaign follows the Arts Council of Wales decision to withdraw funding from the company which takes theatre productions and workshops to 22,000 children and young people in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport, Monmouthshire and Torfaen.
