Save Gwent Theatre Appeal
|
The Save Gwent Theatre online petition ends next week and supporters are urged to add their names before Wednesday, 17 November.
The campaign has received a further boost by the release of a video and more internet ads on Youtube featuring Gwent Young People’s Theatre past and present members.
You can see the videos by inserting the words Youtube Save Gwent Theatre into a search engine; the Youtube site also provides a good link to sign the petition.
In the latest video ad, Torchwood star Gareth David-Lloyd is seen as a young boy dreaming of fighting aliens and as Ianto Jones living his dream.
Zoe Jofeh of GYPT is filmed in another ad with her mouth sealed by tape and the words “Don’t take our voice away…” whilst Megan Vaughan, also of GYPT, is in the ad based on Hamlet’s To Be or Not To Be soliloquy.
The famous words from Richard III (Now is the winter of our discontent…) feature in the fourth of the series and the final ad, based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream finishes with the words “Don’t take our audience…”
Gwent Theatre takes productions and workshops to 22,000 children in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport, Monmouthshire and Torfaen.
The campaign follows the Arts Council of Wales decision to withdraw funding at the end of the financial year.
Students at the International Film School, Newport, first brought the Youtube campaign to life with a four-minute film.
The online petition on the Assembly of Wales website has attracted over 900 signatures and street petitions have been signed by nearly 3,000 people.
