![]() They perform in the Melville Theatre of the Drama Centre, Pen-y-pound with all proceeds going to Gwent Young People’s Theatre. Kara Tobin of Bridgend has been performing since she was 12 and although compared with Sarah McLachlan and Karen Carpenter her voice and style are unmistakable. Add to the mix the amazing band of musicians in Call Me Albert and the result is a stadium sound. Kara’s music is a mix of rock, pop, folk, Latin, French, Country Acoustic with a little blues and some jazz for good measure. She was the face and voice of the national TV trailers for Welsh Adult Learners and is a member of the Women in Jazz Association. Her music is regularly played on national radio stations including BBC Wales, Radio Cymru, BRFM & Bridge FM. She has also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Call Me Albert have played extensively throughout South Wales and beyond, including festivals at Blaenavon Blues and Aberjazz 09 and a headline act at 2010 Cwmamman Festival, live sessions for BRFM and featured play on Bob and Norm’s Blues Show on GTFM radio. In concert they mix their own songs with covers of classic blues and rock. The line-up is: Rob Feasey (bass guitar, 12-string guitar, mandolin and vocals); Richard Jones (lead guitar & vocals) Richard Carter-Evans (harmonica, rhythm guitar, bass and vocals), Paul Worthington (drums), Graham Worthington (keyboard) and their sound engineer is David Bolton. This is the second band to volunteer a benefit at the Melville Theatre since the Arts Council of Wales announced they were withdrawing funding from Gwent Theatre. Popular local band Jiveoholics played a gig in September and a big line up of performers are being arranged for a night of entertainment at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny next month. Gregg Taylor, Chair of Gwent Theatre said: “We are heartened by the response from the community and would publicly thank everyone for giving us their support. We are actively campaigning against the withdrawal of funding and have the support of Welsh Assembly members in South East Wales.” The campaign features Save Gwent Theatre film on Youtube, and a series of adverts including one starring former Torchwood star Gareth David-Lloyd. Tickets for the concert at the Melville Theatre are £8 and £6 from the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, 01873 850805. www.boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk or at the Melville Theatre on the night. |
