A £2,095,902 Capital Grant awarded by The Arts Council of Wales will enable Cwmni Tref Caernarfon to proceed with plans to construct a cultural centre located in a unique position at Victoria Dock, Caernarfon. The project, located on a waterfront site is a solid example of how the arts can play a central role in the renewal of rural areas in Wales. The new centre, designed by the award-winning Scottish architect, Richard Murphy, will include a performance space, two rehearsal rooms, workshops and studio spaces for artists and makers, gallery, cinema facilities and a bar and cafe. Gwyn Roberts Chief Executive of Cwmni Tref Caernarfon says `The award of this grant gives us a once in a lifetime opportunity to establish an innovative and unique facility to promote the creative industries and the arts in this part of Wales. We can now move forward with greater confidence to seek the remainder of the required funding needed to build the Centre.’ ACW Chief Executive Peter Tyndall says ‘ACW are delighted to be able to support this project. Developing the Cultural Industries is a strategic priority for us. The facilities proposed for the centre will provide the young people of the area in particular with opportunities that have not been available to date and it is an important development for the economy in this area where the cultural sector is a significant employer.’ This ACW grant represents 37% of the total project cost |
