The international arts centre, will benefit from £10 million of funding from The Arts Council of Wales, which constitutes 9.6% of the project’s overall cost. The award, a Lottery Capital Grant, is the largest ever made in Wales and will enable the provision of accommodation for a number of Wales’s leading cultural bodies. Diversions Dance Company, Hijinx Theatre, Academi, The Touch Trust, Welsh National Opera, Urdd Gobaith Cymru and Tŷ Cerdd will all benefit through rehearsal and performance space, storage and office accommodation provided by the grant. Sybil Crouch, chair of ACW says: “We are delighted that work has begun on this very exciting development for the arts in Wales, and are very pleased to have been one of the main contributors of funding for the new centre. The £10 million grant is part of a greater £27 million funding plan for major capital ventures across Wales in 2002, reinforcing ACW’s commitment to arts funding and development for the whole of Wales.” |
