Independent Ballet Wales present their vital interpretation of Shakespeare's delightful comedy of the sexes "The Taming of The Shrew". Made famous by the 1968 film featuring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton this whimsical and entertaining play is ready for a reawakening in ballet. Featuring original choreography by company Artistic Director, Darius James fusing elements of the finest classical ballet with dramatic physical theatre following the outstanding success of "Romeo + Juliet" in 2001. On her fathers orders the beautiful Bianca can only marry after her awkward sister Katrina. While Bianca has many suitors only one man is willing to take on the difficult task of wooing Katrina. The equally wilful Petruchio. Stunning costumes have been specially devised for the production by welsh designer, Yvonne Williams combining elements of classical design with up to the minute touches of realism. Striking and remarkable sets designed by the team that brought "Romeo + Juliet" to vivid life feature a clean, three dimensional style unique to the company. Independent Ballet Wales are a young, vital group of dancers who are pushing back the barriers of classical ballet. Using powerful and timeless stories the company challenges its dancers to interpret some of the finest characters in literature.
