ACW WELCOMES FINDINGS OF THE AUDIT COMMITTEE ENQUIRY INTO THE CENTRE FOR VISUAL ARTS

The Arts Council of Wales today welcomes the findings of the Audit Committee enquiry into the Centre for Visual Arts.

The report will now be considered by the First Minister, and whilst ACW has already implemented almost all of the report's recommendations, it stands ready to implement any further requirements.

ACW cooperated fully with the Audit Committee and the Auditor General, Sir John Bourne in the enquiry, and is pleased that the Committee has acknowledged the very considerable improvements in procedures put in place by ACW to properly manage risks.

ACW's Chairman, Sybil Crouch, said "It has been a matter of considerable regret that the investment in The Old Library did not provide the high quality, sustainable exhibition space for contemporary art which Wales requires. ACW are however, continuing to discuss a visual arts role for the building with Cardiff County Council.

"ACW has an ambitious vision for the provision of arts facilities for the people of Wales. Many successful Lottery funded projects have been funded since the failure of the Centre for Visual Arts and it is our intention to build on this success."
