It was a fact-finding mission with a difference. Instead of would-be stars approaching an agent, this particular agency went to them. Newly–established Galeri Performance Agency recently held auditions at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff and acquired the services of some of Wales’s more established names. On the audition panel were Peter Karrie, a former Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, Ros Shelley, who played Maria in West Side Story, Tim Rhys Evans, musical director of Welsh National Youth Opera, Eiddwen Harrhy from Glyndebourne Opera, Michael Pollock, a coach at the Royal Academy in London and Dr Terry James, the international conductor and composer. Galeri, which acts as an agency for up and coming artistes, represents more than 30 performers among them singers, string quartets, percussion bands, harpists and even clog dancers. Through these, Galeri fulfils entertainment needs for a wide variety of audiences, catering for a wide range of events from jazz concerts to musical theatre to traditional Welsh to opera. The Cardiff Bay-based company has two other divisions: a supporting artists agency, supplying TV and film companies with extras, and a music and drama in education division, developing music workshops and teacher support programmes for schools and colleges. By September, Galeri’s three directors aim to have developed Wales’s first interactive website which they say will “enable clients to listen before they buy.” Contact them on 02920 491528, fax 02920 497630 or mail@galeri.co.uk. |
