Mr Jones, who lives in Crwbin, has worked in theatre and in broadcasting, in Wales and overseas, since the late 1960’s. During this time his career has involved him with many of Wales’ leading theatre and media companies, and his wide-ranging experience includes directing, producing, editing, and scriptwriting for radio, television and the stage. He has long-since been an active member of various arts committees and panels, and is currently Chairman of the Board of Theatr Bara Caws, and Chairman of the Wales ITI Cymru Steering Committee. His experience includes directing and adapting a wide range of drama series for radio, comprising of a season of nine Saunders Lewis dramas, and a series of Gwenlyn Parry dramas. He has produced individual dramas for television in both English and Welsh including The Keep (Gwyn Thomas), Captain Colenso (Alun Richards), I’ve been Eddie Mostyn (Peter Lloyd) and Streic (John Owen). Mr Jones has also scripted and directed a number of animated productions for S4C, including Dan y Wenallt, two series of animated Shakespeare dramas, The Old Man of Lochnagar, and a number of cartoons. Sandra Wynne, Senior Arts Development Officer (Drama) said, “We were very pleased with the quality of applications for this position, and the decision was a very difficult one to make. Lyn T Jones has made an outstanding contribution to theatre in Wales, and we believe that he has both the experience and the vision to be able to ensure that Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is a success.” Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru will be an independent producing company with an artistic leader to plan a programme of productions that will deliver an exciting and contemporary style of theatre, which has meaning and relevance but is also flexible enough to compete successfully with other media. This will mean taking advantage of the standard literary repertoire and also commissioning new work. This new venture realises one of the priorities of the Council’s Corporate Plan for the years 2002-2007, to establish a Welsh Language National Theatre Company. Interviews are taking place today to recruit the Board Members of the new company. |
