Branwen

Following the successful tour and sell out run at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff; Llwyfan Gogledd Cymru has decided to re-tour the production of Branwen at selected theatres across Wales and Ireland during May 2007, as well as an additional date set for the Welsh Club in London on June 16th.
Branwen is the story of two writers, one Irish and one Welsh, who are thrust together to create a script for an animated film of the Branwen myth from the Mabinogion (The Welsh equivalent of “An Tain”). In the play, we realise that the writers already know each other from their university days, 15 years previously they were lovers, but a lot changes in fifteen years – for people and for nations.
The Mabinogion myth is the tale of a Welsh princess married to an Irish king – “Perhaps the first cross Celtic collaboration”; says Eifion, the film producer in the play.
The play is a tri-lingual production (English, Welsh, and Irish) performed using the latest multimedia and digital technology to create the set and to project translation of the Irish and Welsh dialogue, which is best described as –
"The gorgeous combination of the three languages will be music to anyone's ears." IRISH METRO
Ian Rowlands, Artistic Director of North Wales Stage explains: “As a company we aim to provide entertainment as well as a full theatrical experience for our audiences. We are continually looking for ways to collaborate on productions and to work innovatively in order to bring a new dimension to the theatre in Wales.
“There is a clear parallel between the story in the play itself and the process used to develop the production, which was to unite Welsh and Irish experiences and outlooks. We are confident that this is reflected in the final work and that Branwen is a very real and honest production.”
