Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru Bring Pinter Classic To Theatr Elli
|
One of Harold Pinter’s most famous works, The Caretaker, will be hitting Llanelli’s Theatr Elli courtesy of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, 9- 10 February, in the Welsh language adaptation Y Gofalwr.
Influenced both in style and subject matter by Samuel Beckett's classic Waiting For Godot, The Caretaker was the first of Pinter’s plays to achieve commercial and artistic success. Tackling the distance between fantasy and reality, relationships within the family and the struggle for power, the story of two brothers and a tramp also touches upon the subject of mental illness through Pinter’s astute perception and masterful use of dialogue that brings both comedy and tragedy into play.
Breathing new life into the production, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru will be performing this masterpiece in a Welsh translation by Elis Gwyn. This version was first performed in the seventies by Cwmni Theatr Cymru to much acclaim. Y Gofalwr follows past productions including Iesu and Siwan, plus TGC’s Classics Season, which included Diweddgan, a Welsh adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, which earned the company much critical acclaim.
Tickets, priced £8-£10, are available now from the box office: 0845 226 3510
