Spotlight Drama

Barry
contact person Alan Smith
artistic policy Spotlight was formed in 1991 by a small group of people. We began rehearsals in Barry Town Football Club as a group of 20 members, rehearsing for our first show which was to be called "Spread a little happiness" and to be staged in the Glamorgan suite of the Memorial Hall in Barry.

From there we moved to Colcot community centre and our membership grew substantially to around 50 members.

As our membership grew, so did our shows and we decided to move again to The New Jerusalem church hall. Our shows then began to be staged on the main stage of the Memorial Hall where they have remained ever since. Under the impression that the New Jerusalem was to be shut down we moved up the road to St Mary's church hall.

Unfortunately, this hall contained many mice & pidgeons (many broken windows!) and was becoming a bit of a health hazard so on reading an advert in the local paper for new people to use the Cwmtalwg community centre, we applied. Thankfully we were given the go ahead to use the hall 4 nights a week!

We have remained there for the past few years under the same management team, namely :-

Alan Smith - Chairman
Deanne Smith - Liaison officer & ticket secretary
Janet Ryan - Subscriptions secretary & Front of house manager
Nicola Long - Director & choreographer (email)
Nadine Smith - Assistant choreographer

We are always looking for new helpers to do various jobs such as:

Business & Publicity
Stage hands
Costume makers
Dressers etc
