other notes | The Society was formed in 1908. The first show that was performed was Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore” in 1909. Except for the war years, a show has been performed annually since then. Following the main production, Members visit Residential homes in the immediate area to entertain the residents. Also, an invitation is given to residents of these Homes, along with members of the local Darby and Joan Clubs to attend a performance of the show as guests of the Society. An annual fund-raising event is held from which a charitable organisation benefits. In 1983 our first Summer Show was performed. There have been 9 Summer Shows since then. We have competed several times at the Festival of Light Opera in Waterford including in 1997 and 2004. The Society has won several awards for shows and individual performances at Clwyd Community Theatre Association (CCTA) Festivals. In 1990 a Junior Section (called the “Young ‘Uns”) was formed for the 6 to 16 age range. They start rehearsals in May for a show staged in November |
